A great place to visit

Next time you’re planning a trip to Union Jacs why not make a day of it and visit some of the Silver Coast  attractions located in and around this area. Within an hour’s drive of our shop in Tornada we have beaches, caves, ancient monuments, natural wonders and even a mountain to choose from.

Beaches

We are half way between two of the most beautiful beaches on the Silver Coast – the white sands and sparkling waters at Foz do Arelho and the stunning horseshoe bay of São Martinho do Porto with its long promenade of shops, cafês and restaurants. Further south the beaches of Peniche offer some of the best spots for Surfing in Portugal, with big, rolling waves and panoramic views of the ocean.

Monuments

On the Silver Coast there are several monuments considered so important they are classified as world heritage sites by Unesco. The monasteries at Alcobaça and Batalha to the north are stunning examples of Gothic architecture and are a must on any cultural tour of the region. The fairytale castle at Óbidos, with its walled town and narrow cobbled lanes, is to the south of us and also well worth a visit.

Golf

We are also within easy reach of some of the best places to play Golf in Portugal. Praia D’El Rei is a stunning course beside the Atlantic which has been rated as among the best in Europe. Bom Sucesso is a new course with panoramic views of Óbidos lagoon and the ocean, while inland near Rio Maior is Golden Eagle, a championship course that hosted the Ladies European Tour in 2009.

Natural wonders

Near the village of Porto de Mós are the caves of Mira de Aire, the largest and most beautiful in the country and open all year round to visitors. If the open air is more your thing head for the mountain of Montejunto to the south where you can drive to the summit and enjoy spectacular views across the Silver Coast region.
